Harrachov, dir. Matt Hulse & Joost Van Veen

UK, 2006, 10 mins

Combining live action, stop-frame animation and a kinetic sculpture, Harrachov explores the effect of an arcane force that, like a black hole or immensely powerful electromagnet, exerts a far-reaching and irresistible power upon certain objects and materials, wilfully seducing, centralizing and internalising them. Extraordinarily, the beast the film creates actually exists, beyond the confines of the screen, as an impressive, fully functional kinetic sculpture – The Harrachov Exchange - designed & constructed by Guy Bishop.

Qaeda Quality Question Quickly Quickly Quiet, dir. Lenka Clayton

UK, 2003, 20 mins

UK, 2007, 14 mins

Rubber Johnny, dir. Chris Cunningham

UK, 2005, 8 mins

Johnny is a hyperactive, shape-shifting mutant child, kept locked away in a basement. With only his feverish imagination and his terrified dog for company, he finds ways to amuse himself in the dark.

Featuring music by legendary electronic composer, Aphex Twin, this nightmarish and hallucinatory experimental short film is accompanied by 40 pages of drawings and photographs – Cunningham’s first published book of original artwork.

Colour Fight, dir. Len Lye
New Zealand, 1938, 4 mins, 16mm

Music "Honolulu Blues" by Red Nicholas and his Five Pennies.
Len Lye chose a tune in which he captures and translates the pulsation (rhythm) in a cocktail of colour. We are treated to an "eye nash", which even today seems fresh (or which they don't make like that anymore.)

Projection 1, dir Jayne Parker
UK, 2000, 6mins

Anton Lukoszevieze plays Morton Feldman's Projection 1 (1950) for solo 'cello, twice through. The film is in black and white and has few edits. The strong graphic lines of the 'cello and its strings, and the intersection of the bow, mirror the graphic score from which this piece is played. A film about form, sound and space: un-gestural.
