The Magic Lantern is Scotland's independent film programme that showcases innovative short films, combined with question and answer sessions with filmmakers, writers and programmers, to generate discussion on the state of short film. It is co-directed by Penny Bartlett and Rosie Crerar.
Screenings are held at the
Centre of Contemporary Arts- Glasgow
DCA- Dundee
The Glasgow Film Festival Shorts Film Festival.
We are open to submissions of all short films (under 30mins) from filmmakers working in Scotland and beyond.
We support short film as an valid art form in its own right, and not just as a prelude to feature filmmaking. We seek to inspire the thriving short filmmaking and artists’ communities throughout Scotland by immersing the very best of local talent within an innovative programme of international work. We particularly focus on work that questions the boundaries between narrative-based and more experimental filmmaking.
The Magic Lantern is supported by the National Lottery through Scottish Screen with in kind support from the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA), Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) and Stills Gallery.
